Bushwalking

Australia has the bizarre grading system that defines wheelchair accessible bushwalks as tracks that cannot be longer than 5km and must meet high urban standards in terms of track conditions. The outcome of this is that a wheelchair accessible bushwalk feels like a concrete highway, and gives very little sense of the bushland itself. The other reality is that walks never get anywhere near as long as 5km due to these rigorous building standards so many tracks are only a few hundred metres long – taking most chairs less than a few minutes.

There are many tracks that can be tackled by chairs like firetrails, bike tracks and tracks that follow flatter ridges. It’s just a matter of finding them….
