Bare Island is a popular dive site at the southern tip of La Perouse. Connected to the mainland via a 50m wooden bridge, it’s a really easy roll down from the car park until you get to the 20 or so steps that actually take you down to the rock shelf height. I found it easiest to just leave my chair at the top of this staircase (my awesome dive buddies helped out with gear and a piggyback!).
Entry into the water is from this rock shelf straight into the water, and swim from there to explore the side of the island facing the main shoreline or the main shoreline itself. It’s possible to enter further around the island, but on the day that we were out there the swell was too big.
Plenty of amazing wildlife to see – nudibranchs, angelfish and an angry Octopus that tried to steal some of Lou’s dive gear…..
